A Whole Bunch of Fyrinnae Swatches!

I have lots of swatch posts building up in my backlog. This one contains my two most recent Fyrinnae orders, including a handful of shadows, plus Witchcraft & Wizardry lip colors.

Here’s how I did my swatches for this round, and, aside from my yet-to-have-been-posted swatches, I’m probably going to be doing going forward: the top row is bare skin. The middle is over a black liner, to show duochromes. The bottom is over primer (Too Faced Shadow Insurance).

The first batch are some of  the Exquisites, which are basically very sheer, chunkier multichromatic sparkles that look best layered over other colors, although I’ve worn them multiple times now over lighter shades just for some shimmer, and they look great that way, too. Note: you will need some kind of sticky base (Pixie Epoxy, Glitter Glue) to keep the sparkle from raining down your face.

Swatch post! Indie Iridescent Purples

Hey all! This is a quickie swatch post to include recently-released iridescent purple shades, as well as some similar ones in the color family for comparison. I plan to have full-face shots of Witchcraft, Wizardry, and Gorgon soon (Sorceress and Faerie Wings have already been reviewed), but I wanted to get the swatches out now for anyone thinking of getting them. All shots were taken in diffused natural lighting on an overcast day.

So, without further ado:

Fyrinnae Witchcraft, Fyrinnae Wizardry, Aromaleigh Gorgon, Darling Girl Faerie Wings, Notoriously Morbid Sorceress

Bare lips, if you prefer a shot for pigmentation.

Darling Girl Faerie Wings 3D Balm Gloss: the least pigmented, a slightly grapey gloss with pretty but subtle blue sparkle. A very wearable lip. Low fuss.

Aromaleigh Gorgon: a nicely pigmented, mid-opacity grape purple with noticeable green shimmer and pinkish tones (on me). Definitely not as dark-looking as the tube. Non-sticky and very pretty.

Notoriously Morbid Sorceress Mystic Matte:  Full-face here. A pink-leaning mauvey purple with very noticeable blue shimmer. The matte makes it really stand out. This lipstick continues to be my jam.

Fyrinnae Witchcraft: A plum with brown undertones and aqua shift. Very wearable, and nice for fall.  Nowhere near as dark as Wizardry, and the shift is a little more muted. Smells like vanilla, decent formula. Not waxy, not stiff, but not slippery-creamy, either.

Fyrinnae Wizardry: A cool-toned dark purple with a brown undertone, and bananas aqua blue shift. Patchy as all get out on the first layer, evens with a second. Very gothy.

Pinky-gold Look & Beauty Challenge

I’ve been in a beauty rut lately. It seems I’ve been doing some combo of pink + gold for awhile now… or as I jokingly call them, my “team colors.”

So after this post, I’m challenging myself to do a series of looks with different colors. Which should be fun– in a few weeks, I’ll have an influx of fun new colors from Darling Girl Cosmetics and Femme Fatale Cosmetics to try out. But I do have a bunch of old, colorful Aromaleigh stuff to sift from– time to push outside my comfort zone.

One of the other things I’ve been playing around with is not really using eyeliner on my top lid– I have found that with my eye shape, for colorful looks, it really opens up my eye.

This look here uses Aromaleigh’s Vivelerock from the discontinued Sonic Rocks collection. The gold on the lid is actually Darling Girl’s Hope, which is more green shimmer in a sheer lavender base– which is GREAT for brightening eyes. I used just the teensiest bit of Persephone Minerals’ Khalifa in the crease just to deepen it, and Fyrinnae’s Rapunzel Had Extensions under my bottom lashes for a pop of gold.

I applied a shimmery coral blush– NARS’ Orgasm– to my cheeks, and finished up with Urban Decay’s Jilted lipstick, since it is my jam lately.

I’m also considering bangs. Thick bangs. Spring means change, and I’m ready for it.

Adventures in Eyeshadow Pressing

Adventures in Shadow Pressing

I have a problem. I love the variety of shades that come out of indie makeup companies. Indies are a great and relatively inexpensive way to sample colors that you might not ordinarily try, and these companies consistently put out some of the most innovative hues on the market. Some of my favorite eye shadows are made by the likes of Fyrinnae and Darling Girl Cosmetics. Continue reading

One look, two ways.

As I was getting ready to go out this week, I found myself running low on time but wanting colorful looks nonetheless. I turned to three products I’ve reviewed recently because they were handy– Fyrinnae eyeshadows in Herbivore and Meerkat, and the gold from the BareMinerals September Issue palette. I decided to use these three products in two looks– one simple, and one more dramatic.

Here’s the simple look– for it, I used Meerkat in the crease and outer corner, Herbivore in the inner corner, and a soft pop of gold in the center. I used one of Stila’s Smudge Stick eyeliners in Purple Tang, then smudged it gently. I kept the mascara to the tips for a softer look. I didn’t even bother with penciling my eyebrows.

Sunset-Inspired Look

Yesterday morning, as I was trawling Pinterest for inspiration (as I often do), I came across this pin which showed a fantastic peachy-orange eye look with a pop of fuchsia for liner.  How lovely is that?

As a blue-eyed (ish) gal and someone with a love of color, I decided to do something similar, as I can’t remember the last time I did a coral eye look. I’ve been in a bit of a nudes rut.

It turned out very prettily!Soft Sunset Look - EyesSo, to do this look, I started off by painting my lid and crease with Maybelline’s Inked In Pink. I then applied Fyrinnae’s Picture It: Sicily to my crease with a soft, fluffy blending brush (MAC 217). From there, I used a slightly damp eyeshadow brush (MAC 239) to pat in Fyrinnae’s Rapunzel Had Extensions over the lid. I went back over the crease with the MAC 217 to make sure the whole look was blended.

Next, I used another brush, the EcoTools Angled Liner Brush (which I will review shortly) to add BareMinerals’ Statement across the top lid and 3/4 of the lower lid. A little bit of Silhouette from the same palette was patted into my browbone as a highlight, and a coat of mascara, and voila. Eyes done.

Indie Spotlight: Fyrinnae Eyeshadows, Part 2

Fyrinnae Eyeshadows

Fyrinnae Eyeshadows

Part 2 of my Fyrinnae swatch-a-thon is devoted to my most recent order. Imagine my shock when my order arrived within four days, despite the lengthy stated turnaround time! I was very impressed. They’ve also stepped up their packaging, and the iridescent foil wrapping was a delight!

But onto the swatches. Once again, these are swatched on bare skin, and then over Pixie Epoxy.
