Swatch post! Indie Iridescent Purples

Hey all! This is a quickie swatch post to include recently-released iridescent purple shades, as well as some similar ones in the color family for comparison. I plan to have full-face shots of Witchcraft, Wizardry, and Gorgon soon (Sorceress and Faerie Wings have already been reviewed), but I wanted to get the swatches out now for anyone thinking of getting them. All shots were taken in diffused natural lighting on an overcast day.

So, without further ado:

Fyrinnae Witchcraft, Fyrinnae Wizardry, Aromaleigh Gorgon, Darling Girl Faerie Wings, Notoriously Morbid Sorceress

Bare lips, if you prefer a shot for pigmentation.

Darling Girl Faerie Wings 3D Balm Gloss: the least pigmented, a slightly grapey gloss with pretty but subtle blue sparkle. A very wearable lip. Low fuss.

Darling Girl Faerie Wings

Aromaleigh Gorgon: a nicely pigmented, mid-opacity grape purple with noticeable green shimmer and pinkish tones (on me). Definitely not as dark-looking as the tube. Non-sticky and very pretty.

Notoriously Morbid Sorceress Mystic Matte:  Full-face here. A pink-leaning mauvey purple with very noticeable blue shimmer. The matte makes it really stand out. This lipstick continues to be my jam.

Notoriously Morbid Sorceress

Fyrinnae Witchcraft: A plum with brown undertones and aqua shift. Very wearable, and nice for fall.  Nowhere near as dark as Wizardry, and the shift is a little more muted. Smells like vanilla, decent formula. Not waxy, not stiff, but not slippery-creamy, either.

Fyrinnae Witchcraft

Fyrinnae Wizardry: A cool-toned dark purple with a brown undertone, and bananas aqua blue shift. Patchy as all get out on the first layer, evens with a second. Very gothy.

Festive EOTDs 2014

I’ve been playing with some fun, bright Holiday EOTDs this week, mostly using my new BH Cosmetics 120 Colors Palette, 1st Edition (review forthcoming). Check it out!

Look #1: Holly Jolly Christmas

Festive EOTDs 2014

Unnnnnnfortunately, I accidentally cleared my camera before I could grab all of the pictures I took of this look, so I only have one that I salvaged from Instagram.  In it, I used two of the matte greens from the palette, and then used the bright true red on my inner corner. Top lid liner is Makeup Geek’s gel liner in Immortal (review forthcoming). On the bottom, I used a gold liner from Sephora (Tropical Dancefloor), and smudged it into the black liner and a little bit of a more evergreen-toned BH shadow.

I tend to feel very self-conscious when wearing super bright shadow, but this worked out really well– probably because I didn’t blend it out too far. It was a cute look for a day of gift shopping.

Look #2: Hanukkah Snowflakes

I almost never wear blue shadow, but I really wanted to do something sparkly and blue. Nearly all of the colors are from the BH Cosmetics palette except Buddy Blue from Darling Girl cosmetics, which I used on my inner corners and browbone. The glitter on the top lid is Gaudy by LA Cosmetics (review forthcoming), and on the bottom it’s Distortion by Urban Decay. As for the liners, the top lid is Midnight by Stila (sooooo pretty, review forthcoming), and on the bottom, it’s Twinkle by Makeup Geek (review also forthcoming).

I love how this turned out!

Look #3: Gruß vom Krampus!

Greetings from Krampus! I wanted a diabolical red smoked out with soot and ash. I vary vary rarely wear black/grey, as it doesn’t suit me, but or this look it was a must. Again, the colors are from the BH Cosmetics palette, with a little bit of Darling Girl’s Buddy Blue on the inner corner to help blend out the charcoal there. Liner is Immortal by Makeup Geek.

New Darling Girl Cosmetics Swatches!

The same week I got my Femme Fatale order was the week I also received my second Darling Girl Cosmetics order. It featured a host of new shades, as well as re-orders of shades that have become staples in my collection.

I purchased a bunch of minis, as well as a blogger pack of shades. In addition, they tossed in two generous freebies.

Pinky-gold Look & Beauty Challenge

I’ve been in a beauty rut lately. It seems I’ve been doing some combo of pink + gold for awhile now… or as I jokingly call them, my “team colors.”

So after this post, I’m challenging myself to do a series of looks with different colors. Which should be fun– in a few weeks, I’ll have an influx of fun new colors from Darling Girl Cosmetics and Femme Fatale Cosmetics to try out. But I do have a bunch of old, colorful Aromaleigh stuff to sift from– time to push outside my comfort zone.

One of the other things I’ve been playing around with is not really using eyeliner on my top lid– I have found that with my eye shape, for colorful looks, it really opens up my eye.

This look here uses Aromaleigh’s Vivelerock from the discontinued Sonic Rocks collection. The gold on the lid is actually Darling Girl’s Hope, which is more green shimmer in a sheer lavender base– which is GREAT for brightening eyes. I used just the teensiest bit of Persephone Minerals’ Khalifa in the crease just to deepen it, and Fyrinnae’s Rapunzel Had Extensions under my bottom lashes for a pop of gold.

I applied a shimmery coral blush– NARS’ Orgasm– to my cheeks, and finished up with Urban Decay’s Jilted lipstick, since it is my jam lately.

I’m also considering bangs. Thick bangs. Spring means change, and I’m ready for it.

EOTD Featuring Darling Girl Cosmetics + Eyeko

EOTD with Darling Girl Cosmetics + EyekoI’ve been busy wear-testing the shadows I pressed, and so far, I’ve been really impressed! They hold up with no fading for 8+ hours over primer (my favorite is TheBalm’s Put A Lid On It).

EOTD with Darling Girl Cosmetics + EyekoThis eye look features Darling Girl Cosmetics’s Obviously A Wig blended very lightly in the crease, and then Hope patted all over the lid. You can’t tell so much in the picture (because my camera apparently hates the color), but Hope has strong grass green shimmer, which really illuminated the eye.

EOTD with Darling Girl Cosmetics + Eyeko I finished it up with a winged eye courtesy of Eyeko’s purple Skinny Liner, which I really need to repurchase. I’ve used it so much for a pop of color that it’s almost all used up. But I love the liner– it’s one of those felt-tip jobbies, and it doesn’t smudge or migrate. A+. Especially since I have difficult eyes to wing-tip– the right one is actually deeper-creased than the left, so I have to sort of compensate and draw slightly different angles in order for it to look even when I open my eyes. Ahh, makeup symmetry problems. My wings still need some work, but they definitely look better than they used to.

I finished the look up with one coat of Buxom’s Buxom Lash mascara, and the barest touch of Urban Decay’s Scorch 24/7 liner (bronze) on the outer corner of my lower lash for definition, and Asphyxiate (lilac) on the waterline.

The whole thing is framed by my usual magenta brows– this is Jane Cosmetic’s Purple Lilac set with Mary Kay’s clear brow gel. It looks a little odd super close-up, but at a normal viewing distance, it just looks like my brows match my hair.

Adventures in Eyeshadow Pressing

Adventures in Shadow Pressing

I have a problem. I love the variety of shades that come out of indie makeup companies. Indies are a great and relatively inexpensive way to sample colors that you might not ordinarily try, and these companies consistently put out some of the most innovative hues on the market. Some of my favorite eye shadows are made by the likes of Fyrinnae and Darling Girl Cosmetics. Continue reading
