Aromaleigh Swatches, featuring Gorgon!

Today, I have for you a handful of swatches from my most recent Aromaleigh order. I placed the order specifically for the Gorgon lip gloss, but ended up grabbing a few shadow samples while I was there, too.

In the tube, Gorgon looks like a dark, cool-toned purple with very strong aqua green shimmer. It looks a bit intimidating. But fear not! It applies much lighter. Continue reading

Swatch post! Indie Iridescent Purples

Hey all! This is a quickie swatch post to include recently-released iridescent purple shades, as well as some similar ones in the color family for comparison. I plan to have full-face shots of Witchcraft, Wizardry, and Gorgon soon (Sorceress and Faerie Wings have already been reviewed), but I wanted to get the swatches out now for anyone thinking of getting them. All shots were taken in diffused natural lighting on an overcast day.

So, without further ado:

Fyrinnae Witchcraft, Fyrinnae Wizardry, Aromaleigh Gorgon, Darling Girl Faerie Wings, Notoriously Morbid Sorceress

Bare lips, if you prefer a shot for pigmentation.

Darling Girl Faerie Wings 3D Balm Gloss: the least pigmented, a slightly grapey gloss with pretty but subtle blue sparkle. A very wearable lip. Low fuss.

Darling Girl Faerie Wings

Darling Girl Faerie Wings

Aromaleigh Gorgon: a nicely pigmented, mid-opacity grape purple with noticeable green shimmer and pinkish tones (on me). Definitely not as dark-looking as the tube. Non-sticky and very pretty.

Notoriously Morbid Sorceress Mystic Matte:  Full-face here. A pink-leaning mauvey purple with very noticeable blue shimmer. The matte makes it really stand out. This lipstick continues to be my jam.

Notoriously Morbid Sorceress

Fyrinnae Witchcraft: A plum with brown undertones and aqua shift. Very wearable, and nice for fall.  Nowhere near as dark as Wizardry, and the shift is a little more muted. Smells like vanilla, decent formula. Not waxy, not stiff, but not slippery-creamy, either.

Fyrinnae Witchcraft

Fyrinnae Wizardry: A cool-toned dark purple with a brown undertone, and bananas aqua blue shift. Patchy as all get out on the first layer, evens with a second. Very gothy.

Oscilla: An exquisite shimmering peach with oodles of icy blue, pink, copper and gold color traveling sparkles.

I’d call this a champagne with pretty multicolored shimmer.

Aureum: A richly shimmering soft warm gold with color traveling sparkles of gold/green and red/violet.

An orange-leaning gold with warm shimmer.

Munera: A rich taupe-y shade with brilliant aqua/gold/copper sparkles.

A cool taupe brown with multicolored shimmer.

Sigillaria: A gorgeously rich amber which is slightly metallic and having a spectacular amount of strong aqua and fuchsia sparklies.

A warm, golden brown with multicolored shimmer.  Continue reading

Life’s Entropy Post #3: Mixes Using Placebo

Part 3 of my series on my introduction to the Life’s Entropy Lip Theory Line! While the last post featured my experiments using JUST the Lip Theories together, this one introduces another element: the Placebo gloss base.

Life's Entropy Placebo

The idea is that you can use the Lip Theories and/or lip-safe eyeshadows mixed into this base to create your own glosses. I knew going in that I am not really a gloss person, really. BUT if given the choice between carrying around a lip brush to reapply and trying to make a REALLY OPAQUE GLOSS that I can carry around for easy touch-ups, I’m going to choose the gloss.  With that in mind, I picked up a tube of Placebo and three empty gloss tube sets:

Life's Entropy Atom Tubes!

Most of the lip-safe eyeshadows I had were from Femme Fatale (and handily marked as such on the sample baggies!), so with the exception of using Aromaleigh’s Folie à Deux, most of the shadows I mixed in were from Femme Fatale. You can go back and check my Femme Fatale tag if you’re interested in what the eyeshadows look like on their own.

For these swatches, I just mixed little bits on aluminum foil sheet to sample what they’d look like. I used a tiny bit of shadow per sample. If you want a full-size, opaque gloss, you’ll need about 1/8- 1/4 tsp of shadow (depending on the shadow), which is why my tester of Flare and my large tube of Flare look different– I didn’t have enough Flare for full opacity in a big tube. As that was one that looked AMAZING when mixed to full opacity, I plan on making a fully opaque Flare in the future. Which means I’ll just have to place another Femme Fatale order soon. WOE IS ME! /sarcasm

A word about the gloss base: it was really nice if you like glosses that aren’t super sticky. Honestly, once I’d mixed in the pigments and Lip Theories, the texture sort of resembled a really creamy, slippery lipstick. In fact, most of the opaque shades felt very much like NYX’s Round Case Lipstick. Obviously, the less color mixed in, the more like a gloss it felt. I also noticed a very subtle vanilla scent.

BUT ANYWHO. On to the experiments! Continue reading

A Few More Aromaleigh Swatches!

And this is the post for the few other eyeshadows I picked up when I bought my now-beloved Dryades collection from Aromaleigh. A few are from the Hannibal-themed “This Is My Design” collection. One is in support of autism awareness. And there were a trio of samples from the new Halloween collection, Diavoli. Hopefully I’ll have some fun looks with the Diavolis later this week– I am planning on pairing them with a product I’ve swatched, but haven’t yet written up!

First up: This Is My Design

Abbatoir, Bellisima, Folie à Deux

Abbatoir:  This shade is a muted copper frost with a strong blue duochrome shift.

This, on my skin was more of a neutral than a copper– a sort of pinkish tan with a silver frost and some blue shimmer (that my camera did not pick up very well because of the frost). It makes a pretty lid shade.

Bellisima: A gorgeously rich fig-purple with a gold duochrome and gold shimmer.

One of those super gorgeous plums that works on pretty much all skin tones. Packed with gold shimmer, this one lives up to its name! It reminds me a whole lot of two of my favorite Zoya polishes, Daul & Faye.

Folie à Deux: A dark blood red with blue undertones and a soft bordeaux metallic highlight, with shards of ice blue sparks throughout.

This is a reddened pink with stunning blue shimmer. I like to use this one in my crease and blend it out with a little Bellisima. Very pretty and Autumnal. Continue reading

Aromaleigh: Dryades Collection & EOTDs

Hey all! I have a new-ish collection from Aromaleigh to share with you guys! I bought a sample set of all 10 colors, which are permanent, and swatched them. I also used a few in some EOTDs (but have not yet used the entire collection in looks). I really, really love these shades! What a lovely collection for fall– they have the plush feel of mattes, but with gorgeous soft shimmer through them. SO beautiful.

Byblis: Her color is an exquisite warm green with a very strong red/copper duochrome.

Oh maaaaaan. So pretty. This is a sort of army green shade with very rich copper shimmer. It’s so Autumnal and lovely.

Daphnis: A rich chestnut brown with a vibrant color traveling duochrome that shifts from blue to teal to green.

This is sort of in the vein of MAC’s Blue Brown pigment, but not as dark. More wearable for ladies like me who can’t really get away with dark shades around the eyes.

Dryope: This color is a real chameleon- it shifts from chestnut to brownish green, while the duochrome overlay shifts from red to aqua!

For the most part, this is a spring green with a brownish-red shimmer highlight. It’s quite unusual– while I didn’t get much blue shimmer in my swatch, I did notice it when I wore it on my lids. Continue reading

Pinky-gold Look & Beauty Challenge

I’ve been in a beauty rut lately. It seems I’ve been doing some combo of pink + gold for awhile now… or as I jokingly call them, my “team colors.”

So after this post, I’m challenging myself to do a series of looks with different colors. Which should be fun– in a few weeks, I’ll have an influx of fun new colors from Darling Girl Cosmetics and Femme Fatale Cosmetics to try out. But I do have a bunch of old, colorful Aromaleigh stuff to sift from– time to push outside my comfort zone.

One of the other things I’ve been playing around with is not really using eyeliner on my top lid– I have found that with my eye shape, for colorful looks, it really opens up my eye.

Pinky-gold LOTD IMG_8700 Pinky-gold LOTD

This look here uses Aromaleigh’s Vivelerock from the discontinued Sonic Rocks collection. The gold on the lid is actually Darling Girl’s Hope, which is more green shimmer in a sheer lavender base– which is GREAT for brightening eyes. I used just the teensiest bit of Persephone Minerals’ Khalifa in the crease just to deepen it, and Fyrinnae’s Rapunzel Had Extensions under my bottom lashes for a pop of gold.

I applied a shimmery coral blush– NARS’ Orgasm– to my cheeks, and finished up with Urban Decay’s Jilted lipstick, since it is my jam lately.

I’m also considering bangs. Thick bangs. Spring means change, and I’m ready for it.
