Recent-ish Nails

Hello all! I have been remiss in updating my blog. I’m about to head out to sunny Ocean City, MD for the annual Art of the Belly bellydance convention, so I’ve been doubletiming it working on stock to sell at my booth (and practicing with my troupe, Transcendence– we will be performing on Saturday). I have barely touched makeup in weeks. I haven’t actually painted my nails in two weeks, unless you count the pinkish stain they’ve taken on from re-dyeing my hair two days ago. But at least there will be some fun stage makeup posts coming up!

In the meanwhile, I have some older manis that I did earlier in the month, and a couple of mini reviews!

Mani #1 is Hyperbole, Digital Nails‘s gooooorgeous multi-flakie topper, over Emily De Molly‘s Lace Man, a periwinkle-grey with strong pink shimmer. While my first instinct was to put Hyperbole over a darker shade (where it legit looks like a black opal), it looks beautiful over lighter shades, too. Magical unicorn nails, no lie.

Here, have some bottle shots:

I also picked up I See France, Digital Nails’ black undies polish, which is superbly pigmented and perfect for stamping. It is absolutely comparable to Cult Nails’ Nevermore. Those two are the two best black stamping polishes I’ve ever used. I haven’t yet used the masking fluid yet, but I will be reviewing that one once I return from travel.

Off Topic Post: Auction For a Very Special Kitty

As some of you know, I run a jewelry business. Sometimes I run special auctions for friends’ animals who need expensive surgeries & treatments. This week, I am running an auction to benefit Fatty, the fluffy ball of love that belongs to my cat fostering friends, Amy & Justin. I am auctioning off a sterling silver & labradorite pendant that I made. The auction ends on Friday at 12 noon Eastern.

For more information on the pendant, on Fatty, and on how to bid, please visit this page.

Brazen Cosmetics – Hot To Trot UltraPlush Liquid Lipstick

Brazen Cosmetics - Hot To Trot

Among one of my orders from The Rhinestone Housewife was a lovely gift– a lipstick from Brazen, a brand I had never before heard of. What an awesome extra! (And talk about knowing your audience!)

It has taken me entirely too long to get swatches of it up on the blog, but the shade I received was Hot To Trot, a “scrumptious flirty bright coral pink with flirty gold shimmer.”

Brazen Cosmetics - Hot To Trot

I’m not sure if the color was reformulated at all or not, but the shade I received looked neither like the swatches on their site, nor fit that description, exactly. It’s definitely a bright coral, though it does not lean (on me) hot pink the way it does on the site. In addition, the shimmer in my tube is definitely pink, not gold. There’s so much shimmer, in fact, that it leans quite frosty. Continue reading

Fantasy Bath: My Secret Weapon Against Winter

Fantasy Bath Bath Bombs

As most of you in the northern hemisphere might have noticed, it has been cold lately. Hell-has-frozen-over cold. After a long day in my studio (which, no matter where we live, somehow ends up being the coldest room in the house), I find myself needing a nice hot bath.

While I like Lush quite a bit and enjoy many of their products (their bubble bars in particular), I have found that one bath bomb from Lush is never sufficient to moisturize me. In fact, while certainly fun to use, some of the bath bombs seem to leave me no softer than before I got in  the tub. Also, I find their narrow range of scents a bit boring at times.

Imagine my happiness when I found out that one of my favorite bath bomb makers, Fantasy Bath, is still in business. Let me tell you about Fantasy Bath–

— The bath bombs come in so many scents (and also bulk powder bags). The scents are all quite lasting, and often my bathroom smells like the bath bomb I’ve most recently used for at least a day.

— They are 100x more emollient than Lush bombs (okay, so maybe 100 is hyperbole, but you do not need to cocktail these babies with any other oils– it’s so nice. I’d compare one Fantasy Bath bomb to one Lush bomb cocktailed with half a bath melt.  Continue reading
