Sephora Collection – Give Me More Lip Set. Pt. 4: The Berries

And now, the final color family from the Give Me More Lip set. Also my favorite. I absolutely love berries. They flatter pretty much everyone. And of all of the color families, the berry shades in this set offer the widest variety of finishes.

1. Buxom - Menace. 2. Fresh - Berry. 3. Tarte - Moody. 4. OCC - Black Dahlia.

Sephora Collection – Give Me More Lip Set. Pt. 3: The Pinks

The third category I swatched from the Sephora Collection Give Me More Lip set were the pinks. Technically, I’d call two of the “nudes” pinks, and with the exception of the PosieBalm, all of these colors fell into the vibrant pink / fuchsia category.

1. Benetint: PosieBalm. Tarte: Flush. 3. Bite Beauty: Palomino. 4. Too Faced: Melted Fuchsia.

Sephora Collection – Give Me More Lip Set. Pt. 2: The Reds

Part two of this 4-part series features the swatches of the four red shades in the Sephora Collection Give Me More Lip set.

1. Laura Mercier - Red Armour. 2. KVD - Outlaw. 3. Sephora - Red Essence. 4. Hourglass - Icon.

I swatched these on the day I did my Krampus makeup, as I figured the reds would look nice against the pop of red on my lids. As a result, my makeup is fairly… dramatic. I look nothing like myself!

Sephora Favorites – Give Me More Lip Set. Pt 1: The Nudes

Sephora Collection Give Me More Lip Set

I had been admiring Sephora’s set of 17 mini lip products for some time now. It’s honestly sort of a genius collection– several brands, several finishes, all sorted into four color families– nudes, pinks, berries, and reds. It’s a great idea if you want to try new things, and it’s also perfect for gifting. All for $59, which is a GREAT price for the set. I was tempted. Oh so tempted.

Then Sephora online sold out, and I thought, “thank god, I’m safe from temptation.”

…Then I had to go X-mas shopping at the mall, and the Sephora store had them front and center. “YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE SAFE,” the display mocked me. “GOTCHA, WENCH.” And because I am weak of will, I caved.

I’m going to separate out my swatches & reviews into four separate posts, because frankly the last time I did more than five lip swatches in a sitting, my lips flaked and peeled and burned with unbridled hatred.

1. MUFE: 3C. 2. Stila: Nude Vinyl. 3. Laura Mercier: Blush. 4. BMMM: Speak Your Mind. 5. Too Faced: Naked Dolly

Here are the nudes, which are generally my least favorite color family. I decided to do them the day that I did my Mimi-blue snowflake eye look, because if there’s anything that begs for a subdued lip color, it’s freakin’ blue eyeshadow. Considering both blue AND nudes are not really in my wheelhouse, you will forgive the expression of “oh god, when can I wash my face?” I am wearing in the following shots.

Magical Snowflakes! A Stampicure with Digital Nails’ Nox

Digital Nails: Nox Stamping

I have a super fun mani to share today! It’s a thermal stampicure using Digital Nails’ Nox, which is a really complex and beautiful shade. On the surface, it’s a deep, shimmery blue when cold, and a lighter silver when warm. But it’s extra cool because the shimmers in it are also duochrome– they transition from blue to purple, which can impact the overall look of the polish depending on the light you’re in. While my nails looked blue and silver in diffused lighting, in direct sunlight, they were a purple-toned blue and a gorgeous lilac. Continue reading

Peacock Look for Christmas

My original plan for my Christmas look was a fairly standard one: Fair Isle sweater, comfy jeans, very minimal makeup. But then I unwrapped the glorious boots that my husband got me, and that plan rapidly changed. Suddenly, it was, “Screw this. I’mma be a peacock. The SPARKLIEST PEACOCK IN ALL THE LAND.”

Peacock Look!

I mean, look at these boots! They’re iridescent Docs, and they shift from vibrant beetle-wing green to violet purple. In some lights, they look silver. In some, gold. And the leather interior is lilac. THEY ARE RESPLENDENT.

AAAAAAAAAH.

AAAAAAAAAH.

I had recently purchased a peacock-feather embroidered tunic from ModCloth, and I had a peacock feather headband. My mother gave me peacock-colored dangly earrings last year. All that was left was the makeup.

I used the BH Cosmetics 120 Colors palette that I’ve been testing for most of the colors, using an aqua in my inner corner, a medium teal on the lid, a deep purple in the crease, and a magenta to blend it upwards. Most of them were mattes, which I am finding are outperforming the shimmers in the palette.

I used the teal and some of the deep purple under my eye, and then finished lining my under eye area with Urban Decay’s 24/7 liner in Asphyxia.

For the upper liner, I used Stila’s liquid liner in Midnight, and then I added a little bit of sparkle using Urban Decay’s Distortion glitter liner.

As for the rest of my makeup, I kept it pretty neutral. I received my Life’s Entropy lippies on Christmas Eve, so here I am wearing Milky Way, which will be reviewed sometime next week.

And here’s the whole shebang: (And please excuse the Christmas Packaging Detritus behind me!)

Sometimes, I look at my bedazzled self in the mirror and go, “you know, 15 year old me would be so damn happy with how I turned out.”

Oscilla: An exquisite shimmering peach with oodles of icy blue, pink, copper and gold color traveling sparkles.

I’d call this a champagne with pretty multicolored shimmer.

An orange-leaning gold with warm shimmer.

Munera: A rich taupe-y shade with brilliant aqua/gold/copper sparkles.

A cool taupe brown with multicolored shimmer.

Sigillaria: A gorgeously rich amber which is slightly metallic and having a spectacular amount of strong aqua and fuchsia sparklies.

A warm, golden brown with multicolored shimmer.  Continue reading
