The Lust List: January 2014

A quick list of products I’m daydreaming about, but haven’t purchased… yet.

As you’ve heard from probably every other beauty blog on Earth by now, the Pantone color of the year for 2014 is Radiant Orchid.

Pantone 2014: Radiant OrchidPurple is going to be very in this year. I’m excited about that! Purple is one of those shades that pretty much everyone can wear, with a little tweaking. In that vein, my first two lusts for 2014 feature purple and complimentary colors.

Lust List January 2014

1. Bite Beauty High Pigment Matte Pencil: Violet. I was recently introduced to this brand when I picked up the 4-pencil holiday kit they put out, and a review on those are forthcoming. Let me just say that it’s kicked off a Pokemon-esque “gotta catch them all” obsession with these pencils, which are more of a satin and are a DREAM to work with.  The last time I was in Sephora, I swatched Violet, and I think this one may be my next purchase.

2. Sugarpill Cosmetics Heartbreaker Palette. I very nearly bought this yesterday. Seriously, I was sooooo close. Sugarpill has a rep for having some of the best eyeshadows on the market, especially if you like your brights. I have long coveted 2am, the magenta shade in the palette, and I think I’d have fun with some of the other shades. That said– would I really wear cobalt blue out of the house? I don’t know. I think I’m going to try to play with similar shades I have in sample-size from mineral makeup companies, and if I like them, then I’ll pick up this palette for spring.

Lust List January 20143. Tarte Cheek Stain in Awakening. I think that maybe this shade was limited edition, as I can’t seem to find it for sale on either Sephora or Tarte any longer. That said, I did see it recently in a Sephora brick-and-mortar. One of the challenges of having hot pink hair is that I really have to balance the color on my face.  If I do bright lips, I dial back the eyes, and vice versa. Either way, I need my cheeks to stay fairly neutral. For this purpose, I generally stick to the Stila Convertible Color pots, but I loved this shade when I swatched it. It was a slightly shimmery tan with subtle rose undertones. It was a great shade to warm up my cheeks but not add too much competing color.  In any case, I better make my mind up on this one posthaste!

4. Clinique Superprimer / Universal Face Primer. I don’t tend to use primer, truth be told. My foundation tends to stay on well, and I don’t particularly have pore issues. That said, I got a sample of this from Sephora, and it really felt wonderful on my face. Everything looked just a little more smooth and well hydrated. I’d like to try it a second time just to make sure my brain wasn’t overselling it, but overall, of the primers I’ve tried, I did like this the best.

Have you tried any of the items on my lust list? Thoughts?

  1. I have the Tarte cheek stain in Awakening. Absolutely love it. It’s a great neutral without being too brown or too pink. Tarte is redoing their packaging so that may be why it’s come down from the websites.
